THE STORY
Alfredo Bowman, known to the world as Dr. Sebi, was a self-taught Honduran herbalist whose plant-based approach to living built a following that spans generations. He passed in 2016, but his name still comes up at the juice bar, in the barbershop and in group chats where somebody is trying to eat a little better.
The design frames his portrait in leaves and natural texture, and lets the quote do the rest. It isn’t a health claim. It’s a reminder that the most important leader in your life is your own mind.
The Southern California connection
CRENSHAW
Dr. Sebi’s name is tied to a Crenshaw story. Nipsey Hussle, whose Marathon Clothing store stood at Crenshaw and Slauson, was developing a documentary about Dr. Sebi before he died in 2019. Two independent thinkers, one corner of South LA. Find more of that history in our guide to urban wear in Los Angeles.
