Description
THE STORY
On December 23, 1913, the Federal Reserve Act was signed, and the way America makes and moves money changed for good. This design borrows the look of currency, the engraving, the seals and the serial-number energy, and flips it into a question: who built the wealth, and who got to keep it?
It’s not a lecture. It’s the kind of shirt that makes somebody at the barbershop ask “1913? What happened in 1913?” and then the conversation takes care of itself.
The Southern California connection
BRUCE’S BEACH
LA County has its own chapter of this story. In 1912, Willa and Charles Bruce bought oceanfront land in Manhattan Beach and ran a resort where Black families could enjoy the coast. In 1924, the city took it through eminent domain. Nearly a century later, in 2022, LA County returned the land to the Bruce family’s descendants. Wealth, ownership and who gets to keep it, all on one stretch of sand.
